5 Tips to get The Job

I am not a Human Resource Director, no ma'am I am not. Nor am I a HR Recruiter, no I turned down that position. I do however answer the phone at a company with nearly 900 employees. I also work as the assistant to the HR department, and I am very close with the peeps who do the hiring. So I know a thing or two about getting a job. So, since I am an endless fount of knowledge I figured it is only right for me bestow this information on you - the job seeker.

Obviously, be confident. You're selling yourself to the recruiter. Ya what them to think you are just grand. But here comes my first tip: go ahead and take a shower before you show up to your interview. I understand you might be interviewing for a dirty job, but you don't need to show up covered in dirt and smelling like BO - that's just rude.

Remember who your interview is with when you come.  "I have an interview today" "ok and who is your interview with?" [insert excuse here] I've heard every excuse in the book "Oh I just forgot it when I got here" "I am just too excited I forgot it" "They never told me their name" Do I look like an idiot? I know they told you their name. It takes one second to write down the name, very little effort, write it on your hand for all I care. Similarly, when the company calls you for a phone interview LISTEN to the message before you call back to know who called you!

Remember: if they say don't call them, they'll call you - they mean it! People call all day, everyday checking on their interview, checking on applications, check on their background check. All this does is annoy the receptionist and slow down the hiring process. Every call you make, every message you leave slows it down. People are busy they don't have time to call you and update you on every step of the way. They will probably only call if they want to move forward. If they haven't called there is either no answer or they don't want to move forward.

Don't give the receptionist 'tude! Hi, that's me, and I actually know the person you are trying to get to hire you. It's not my fault they didn't answer your call, and I cannot make them appear in the office - do don't take that tone with me, Missy! I might be below you, beneath you, or just a roadblock trying stop you from getting a job but, I am just doing my job, informing you to leave them a message and IF they want to move forward AND have an answer THEY WILL CALL YOU!!!!

When you call to get information, have a pen handy. Say you're meeting someone for an interview at a neutral location. Because they are a statewide company and if for whatever reason they "didn't" give you their cell phone number. So you call the main office for directions, a phone number, an email, what have you and I start giving you the message and then you say "hold on I need to find a pen" and/or "I have to pullover" I'm sorry did you not just seek me out for information?!? HAVE A PEN HANDY!

Disclaimer: these tips might not apply to every business. Sometimes hounding the company and being annoying...er, eager...can help you get the job.

Do you have any other tips to add? Did you find these tips helpful?

Communing with Others - Community.

I have been apart of The Peony Project for just a smidgen amount of time but I already loved every minute of it so far! Today is the first of a monthly Link Up and the prompt is: Community. Disclaimer: Not the TV show, Community.

I recently wrote about Community from a Biblical stand point. My Pastor had preached on Community and it really resonated with me. So - go read that if you just can't get enough of thoughts on Community.

Here's the thing. I love Community. I crave Community. I just always want to be in Community. I have a really hard time watching TV or movies with people because I would rather get-to-freakin'-know-ya! (that's a thing - I swear) I want to know your hopes, dreams, fears, strengths, funny, stories etc! I want to know it all. So instead I looove to play BOARD GAMES. mmhmm - yes. oh and I really love Catch Phrase!

The good news is: I have community!
Blogging: I love blogging because I have found such an encouraging community - people are very positive and kind. I have loved being apart of this!
Church: I love my church because there is such a great community of people that are ready and willing to meet each others needs and be a friend if they need it.
Family: I just have the best family, I also married into the best family. I know I am so lucky a lot of people do not have as good of a relationship with their families. My family - even extended to my cousins - is super close. We don't hang out all the time, but when we do get together it is like nothing ever changed. We all laugh and (play board games!)
Friends: I love my friends - I have amazing friends.

Community, to me,  is vital. I don't know if that is dramatic. But I really believe it is. Listen, folks, God in His very nature is Communal. He is 3 in 1. The Trinity. That is built in Community.

So those are my thoughts. Now I want to know your thoughts. Does Community mean as much to you as it does to me? Do you belong to a great Community???

    Wednesday Thoughts// Community Brew

    Picture

Good morning, friend! How are you today? I will be honest, I am a bit weary today. I have been goin' through some tough stuff this week. A family I know got torn apart this weekend. The wife and mother is dead, and the father- well is he in jail awaiting trial. Those are the only details I know. But that is enough for me to fill in the details and just, be sad.

Another family was torn apart on Monday as their 14 year old son passed away from a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

All this in my, normally, quiet town.

I don't know what to do for these people, I wish I could help. I wish I could hug each person directly affected and tell them about the Hope we have in Jesus. I want to help find answers for these senseless acts - but I am afraid there are no answers.

Today my post is brief because I just am at a loss for words.

I am linking up with for the Community Brew, and I am hoping to be filled up and encouraged by the posts there, but I know I will.

    Detroit Sports Fandom

Being a Detroit Sports Fan is emotionally exhausting. It truly is.
I realize I am late to the game here, as I have only been a fan for a little over 3 years. I have grown up liking Detroit enough but when I moved away from home I realized that Michigan is the best state despite what people say. When I moved home I decided to was time to be a sports fan.

So here I am, all geared up to be a Detroit sports' fan with my (then) boyfriend as my guide.

I started learning how to play hockey, baseball, football..oh by play I mean watch...play football, play baseball. Basketball? As a previous cheerleader, I had that game down.

I watched game after game with expectations high as a kite.

When the crushing reality came slowly creeping in.

    We don't win.

    Very often.

Here is one thing I can count on being a Detroit's sports fan: we may not win but we have a lot spirit. We love the players and coaches and want to see Detroit do well. We want to be known for good things and not be laughed at. We loved Jim Swartz and are sad to see him go. Ausmus is my homeboy. And by WE I think I mean me.

I love Detroit sports and I always will.

Win or Lose, it's how you play the game. Right?

Do you like sports? What is your favorite team? Are they good?
